The Beasts

Overview

The beasts of Lizard-722-O are the grotesque by-products of the disastrous Biospill event. Once test subjects, they were exposed to a virus that caused them to mutate into monstrous forms. They have since become hostile to all biological life, roaming the planet in a quest to destroy everything in their path. Their grotesque forms and relentless aggression make them fearsome opponents for the Exterminators and O.

Physical Description

General Appearance

These are the beasts, grotesque amalgamations of humanoid and insectoid features twisted and mutated beyond recognition. While they still retain traces of their previous forms, their bodies are covered in skeletal protrusions, bioluminescent growths, and alien appendages.

Upper Body

The beasts generally have long, spindly limbs with razor-sharp claws, apt for rending flesh and tearing through obstacles. Their torsos seem skeletal and emaciated, their ribcages glowing faintly with a soft light from inside, where organs pulse with viral energy. Many have distorted faces, with empty eye sockets glowing faintly or leaking black ichor, and gaping mouths full of jagged teeth.

Lower Body

The lower bodies take many forms, from insectoid legs to the grotesque hybrid forms of arachnids or crustaceans. Carapaces covered in glowing red orbs act as both armor and sensory organs, affording the beasts hyper-awareness of their surroundings.

Unique Features

Bioluminescent Markings

Their bodies are covered in glowing patterns, most of the time red or green, which serve as both camouflage and intimidation. Spinal Protrusions: Many have jagged spikes or tentacles growing from their spines, used as additional weapons or for intimidation. Behavior Aggression: The beasts show extreme hostility toward all biological life, attacking anything they detect without hesitation. Their movements are erratic and unpredictable, making them difficult to anticipate in combat.

Hive Mentality

Apart from these, the beasts seem to share a hive-like mentality: attacking cohesively, each trying to overpower their target with overwhelming numbers. Communication - primarily low-frequency growls, clicks, or even flashing of bioluminescent markings.

Adaptation

They have adapted well on this planet since all three stages seem to thrive anywhere on this planet, from thick forests to abandoned cities. Their ability to climb and burrow, let alone swim, makes them so diverse and threatening in practically all terrain. Stealth and Hunting Ambush predators, rogue beasts generally attack from the rear or from cover, striking with lethal precision. Some of them utilize their bioluminescence in luring prey into traps. Abilities Enhanced Strength: The beasts are immensely strong and capable of tearing through metal, concrete, and even reinforced Exterminator armor. Regeneration: They are able to regenerate damaged tissue at an alarming rate, making them extremely hard to kill without sustained damage. Viral Weaponry: Their claws and bites are covered in the virus, infecting any biological life they wound. Larger beasts can release clouds of viral spores, serving as a weapon and a defense mechanism.

Bioluminescent Lures

Some beasts use their glowing orbs and markings to distract or hypnotize prey, drawing them into deadly ambushes. Variants Hunters: Agile and stealthy, these smaller beasts stalk their prey silently before striking with precision. Most of the time, it is found in dense forests because they use their bioluminescence to confuse and orient their targets.

Brutes

Large, heavily armored beasts relying on brute strength in order to crush enemies. Their carapaces are almost not able to be penetrated and they are able to charge with great force.

Stalkers

Insect-like beasts with long, spindly legs and pincers. They lever their height and agility into leaping onto prey from above or striking from odd angles.

Screamers

Twisted humanoids with massive slack jaws. Their bloodcurdling screams disorient targets and attract more terrors to the scene for predation. Threat Assessment The rogue terrors are highly dangerous: No natural predator native exists within Lizard-722-O. Due to their high degree of adaptability and beehive-like organization, the terrors will be long term threats to even well-conditioned Exterminators and O. Encounters

O and the Exterminators

O approaches with O relishes the challenge of taking on these beasts and often taunts them mid-fight, turning their own hive tactics against them. Her agility and weaponry make her a formidable match, but it is in the hunt that the pleasure lies, often prolonging battles for her amusement. The Exterminators Approach: The Exterminators neutralize beasts with precise tactics and in teamwork, often using sophisticated weaponry and anti-virus measures to avoid infection. Yet for all their effectiveness, they view the beasts as a perpetual force that demands unending vigilance.
