Solaris-3, also known as Sol-III and Solaris, is the third planet from the sun and the setting of Wuthering Waves. In the ancient past the planet was ravaged by a series of global catastrophes known collectively as The Lament. During one of these global Laments, the planet's axis and magnetic poles shifted to dramatically change the surface climate and ecology, and in the aftermath the Etheric Sea spread over the planet.

This process also physically separated Solaris from the rest of the universe, killing civilisation's budding spaceflight capabilities in its cradle, and gave rise to the Waveworn Phenomena, a series of anomalous occurrences resulting from the destabilization of natural laws. However, thanks to the Lament, humans have gained the ability to resonate and manipulate frequencies, giving rise to Resonators.

History

Over the past 10,000 years, Solaris-3 has suffered five global Laments and over 350,000 regional Laments. The Tethys Institute, a facility in the Pre-Lament Civilization, enacted a plan to save humanity after the destruction of 80% of all structures and half the population in the first global Lament.

Solaris' current nations appear to have been established in the last millennia, although the current state of the Roya Frostlands and their settlement by the Roya may have been established as early as the second global Lament.

Rover likely first appeared in Solaris 10,000 years ago, just as the SkyArk Space Station was destroyed in the final moments of Solaris' envelopment by the Etheric Sea. It is possible that Rover, or other Homeland Civilization compatriots, were monitoring the planet before the onset of the Lament.
